2025 Early Career Scholar Award

The Early Career Scholars Award recognizes early career psychologists who have made significant contributions to the field of general psychology through interdisciplinary theory and/or research. Through this award, we aim to honor the achievements of early career psychologists, encourage innovative practices among the scholars, and support their professional development.

2025 Winner

Dr. Ayoub Bouguettaya

Dr. Ayoub Bouguettaya is a social health psychologist and Project Scientist at CedarsSinai Medical Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Health Psychology from Deakin University, Australia (2019) and a B.Sc. (Honors) in Psychology from the Australian National University. He previously served as an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Birmingham (UK) and as an Assistant Lecturer at Monash University (Australia).

Dr. Bouguettaya's research applies quantitative and qualitative methods to understand human behavior at the intersection of social psychology, health, and technology. His primary focus is on how social identity, cognitive factors, and polarization influence health outcomes, psychopathology, and public health communication. Recently, his work has centered on the social psychology of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on healthcare. This includes projects investigating racial bias in AI-mediated psychiatric diagnosis, the use of XR for remote group therapy, and analyzing online informationseeking behavior for psychiatric care. His research has been published in leading journals such as Nature Human Behavior, Science Advances, NPJ Digital Medicine, General Hospital Psychiatry, and PLoS One.
