Early Career Scholars Award for Division 1

The Early Career Scholars Award recognizes early career psychologists who have made significant contributions to the field of general psychology through interdisciplinary theory and/or research. The award will be presented annually at the APA Convention, recognizing an individual who demonstrates exceptional potential to advance the discipline of psychology. Through this award, we aim to honor the achievements of early career psychologists, encourage innovative practices among the scholars, and support their professional development.

Eligibility:

  1. Nominees must meet the criteria for Early Career Psychologists held by the American Psychological Association, (currently, must be within ten years of receiving their doctoral degree in psychology).

  2. Nominees must be current members of the Society for General Psychology, Division 1 of the American Psychological Association.

  3. Nominees must have demonstrated significant contributions to general psychology through interdisciplinary theory-building and/or research.

  4. Nominees should have a record of publications that indicates their promise and potential for future contributions to general psychology.

Award Benefits:

Honorarium of $2,500. Also, a certificate of recognition and an opportunity to publish a summary of their work in the Division 1 newsletter, The General Psychologist.

How to Apply:

Self-nominations are accepted, but candidates can also be nominated by a peer, mentor, or colleague. Nominations must include:

  1. A letter detailing the nominee's qualifications, contributions to general psychology, and potential for future impact.

  2. The nominee's current CV, highlighting relevant achievements, publications, and professional activities.

  3. Three published articles or book chapters that represent the nominee’s contributions.

Submission Deadline is in February of each year.
